Since opening in July
2000, The Hillcrest Youth Center has served more than 4,500 youth. The
HYC is the only drop-in facility for LGBTQ youth in San Diego County.
The Hillcrest Youth Center offers cyber/computer training, health education,
basic financial education, diversity and cultural awareness workshops
and seminars, youth leadership training, case management, HIV prevention
education, life skills training workshops, discussion groups, counseling
services, and social activities.
However, the heart of
what The Hillcrest Youth Center offers is much larger than their excellent
programs. The HYC is committed to providing safe space, adult leadership,
and educational opportunities for high-risk youth to develop into responsible,
productive and fully participating citizens.
Since 1991, Special Delivery San Diego has been delivering nutritious
meals to men, women, and children living with AIDS and other life-threatening
illnesses. For over 15 years, their home deliveries have been an essential
ingredient to maintaining the good health of their clients. As an all-volunteer
organization, Special Delivery welcomes anyone who can donate an hour
or two each week to help in the kitchen or deliver meals to their clients.
